The Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda (ICGU) was incorporated in December 1998 as a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital and was officially launched in October 2000. ICGU is a not-for-profit organization established in Uganda to foster the Corporate Governance values of accountability, transparency, integrity and responsibility. The Institute derives its mandate from the Memorandum and Articles of Association and it is governed by an 11- member Council and a Secretariat headed by a Chief Executive Officer. Membership cuts across all sectors and embraces both individual and corporate members. At the Institute we promote Corporate Governance in Uganda through the propagation of best practice and highest standards of ethical conduct mainly through the following activities: i. Membership Development: through offering value adding services to members of the Institute like free training, subsidized consultancies and the opportunity to participate in ICGU activities. ii. Training in Corporate Governance: ICGU conducts enhanced and diversified trainings for the Board of Directors and executive managers of public, private enterprises and Non-Governmental Organizations. iii. Technical Assistance: ICGU develops handbooks on Corporate Governance and offers technical support to entities to enhance their codes of conduct and best practice, evaluation of board performance and developing board manuals. These assignments enhance performance of corporate boards and provide vital benchmarks for strengthening compliance. iv. Publications: The Institute reaches its target audience through various publications on topical governance issues. This contributes to information dissemination on Corporate Governance. v. Public Sensitization: ICGU conducts public awareness lectures on several themes in the realm of Corporate Governance. This has enhanced ICGU’s image and visibility as the “flag-bearer” of Corporate Governance in Uganda.
