In Uganda, over 80% of the total population lives in rural areas, women constitute 76% of agriculture labor force (OECD 2015, MoFPED 2014), and subsistence farming is, by far, the main source of employment. Akaboxi provides the community/communities with the most secure way of keeping smallholders farmers savings that are kept in boxes to be managed and monitored by use of a digitalized system that replaces the rudimentary way of keeping money in boxes and in people’s homes to a more secure, reliable and easy to monitor system. Akaboxi later connects the rural communities to Microfinance Institutions, Banks and SACCOS and provides agricultural inputs to support the small holder farmers.
